Kaylee Muthart Gouged Her Eyes Out While On Meth

Kaylee Muthart, the young woman who gouged her eyes out while on meth now has a GoFundMe account.

(Hello Giggles)

few weeks ago, 20-year-old Kaylee Muthart made national news when she gouged her own eyes out while high on methamphetamine, leaving herself blind. Only several weeks after the horrifying incident took place, Muthart has decided to open up and share her story on Cosmopolitan.com in what she says is a warning to anyone who struggles with drug addiction. Muthart also has a GoFundMe page to raise money ($50,000) for a service dog.

Muthart’s tragic story is difficult to read, but also serves as an important reminder of the severe dangers of drugs like meth. When she was approximately 19 years old, Muthart had dropped out of high school, ended a long-term relationship, lost a couple jobs, as well as several close friendships. She was struggling to get by, and she turned to drugs, first just marijuana, but then meth after she accidentally tried a mysterious upper that was laced in her pot. As she became more addicted to the serious drug, Muthart experienced intense hallucinations and paranoia.

On the morning of Tuesday, February 6th, Muthart was walking to church when she had an overwhelming urge to gauge her eyes out as a “sacrifice” to make the world a better place.

She doesn’t know why she felt the need to do this, but told Cosmo that she felt it had to be done. A pastor found Muthart gauging her eyes out on the sidewalk, and she was later brought to the hospital and then placed in a psychiatric facility.

Muthart went home with her mother last week, and since then, she’s tried to stay optimistic about her future. She told Cosmo that she still wants to go to school to become a marine biologist, and that she is doing physical therapy. She plans on attending 90 Narcotics Anonymous meetings in 90 days, and has joined a new church to avoid old friends and old habits.

Muthart’s mother created a GoFundMe page to raise $50,000 to get a service dog since her daughter is now blind. On the page, her mom writes,

“As we prepare for the long road to getting her situated in her new life we are asking for your help. The journey will no doubt require many things to allow her to live a full life. But If Kaylee’s story can help just one person, something good can come of this tragedy in our family. We are truly grateful for all the prayers and help we’ve received thus far and ask that you give whatever you can and continue to pray for us. The sooner we can provide Kaylee with a service dog, the sooner we can help her get back on her feet. God Bless.”

As of today, March 9th, Muthart’s GoFundMe page has raised about $18,000 of her $50,000 goal. If you’re interested in helping Muthart and her mother raise money to get a service dog, you can donate the amount of your choice. We hope that Muthart can stay sober and have the future she dreams of.
