Gabrielle Union & Dwayne Wade Have “Had Eight Or Nine Miscarriages”
Gabrielle Union opens up about what hurts the most.
The Being Mary Jane actress may seem to live a glamorous life, but there’s one thing that’s missing and it’s a baby. Her first novel goes in-depth about the struggles of conceiving, more than she’s ever talked about in the number of interviews on her and Dwayne’s private life. Gabrielle has previously admitted that she thought she never wanted to have children, but since becoming a step-mom to Dwayne’s three boys, having children of her own is something that is very important to her now.
“I have had eight or nine miscarriages,” Gabrielle writes in the book, exclusively obtained by People. “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”
Despite the years of tried efforts and heartbreaking failures, Gabrielle says her and Dwayne “remain bursting with love and ready to do anything to meet the child we’ve both dreamed of.”
Gabrielle further notes that so many women, those not just in the spotlight, can feel entitled to the age-old question ‘Do you want kids?’ “A lot of people, especially people that have fertility issues, just say ‘no’ because that’s a lot easier than being honest about whatever is actually going on,” she tells People. “People mean so well, but they have no idea the harm or frustration it can cause.”
Dwayne and Gabrielle tied the knot back in August 2014. Together they raise Dwayne’s nephew Dahveon Morris, 16, and two sons from a previous marriage Zaire, 15, and Zion, 10.
Dwayne shared a family photo on Instagram not too long ago with the caption, “As a dad, watching my kids develop their own sense of style is amazing….and sometimes funny. The most important thing is teaching them to create their own individuality–while they take some pointers from me…”
