Film: RZA To Produce Ol’ Dirty Bastard Biopic Is In The Works
This is great news for Wu-Tang and hip-hop fans alike. According to the Hollywood Reporter, a biopic of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard is in the works at Sony’s Columbia Pictures. After rumors of an Ol’ Dirty Bastard biopic have surfaced for some time, it now confirmed that a film is officially in the works. Sony’s Columbia Pictures confirmed that they have begun development on the biopic of the Wu-Tang Clan member.
At the moment, RZA is attached to produce the project. A search for a potential director has started, but futher details about the forthcoming flick is scarce. RZA has revealed back in 2016 that he does not want to direct the film, but rather have less involvement with the film.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard, real name Russell Tyrone Jones, is one of the founding and standout members of the Wu-Tang Clan. He passed away in November 2013 due to cocaine and tramadol overdose.
Who will produce the film?
RZA, one of the hip-hop collective’s founding members. While they are currently searching for a director, fans can expect to see ODB on the big screen in the near future. ODB passed away on November of 2004 of a drug overdose. Aside from being group members, RZA and ODB are cousins.
In January of this year, RZA spoke with Rolling Stone about the possibility of a biopic. He stated “I think it’s a great idea, and there has been talk about it. There are a few wheels in motion with one done by our first cousin Rayshawn; he was the young guy there watching everything that happened.”
