Former NFL star Jamal Anderson found himself in trouble with the law after an alleged incident at a gas station. The incident allegedly occurred during the early morning hours on Dec. 14 at a QuickTrip in Suwannee, Georgia.
According to police reports obtained by TMZ, Anderson walked into the QuickTrip and began speaking with slurred speech. He gave the clerk money and began walking around the store. At some point, Anderson walked up to the store clerk and allegedly showed his penis. The clerk told authorities that Anderson began to masturbate.
When police arrived at the gas station, the said that he appeared to be drunk. Anderson could have been jailed, but the store clerk decided to not press charges. Police officers decided to give Anderson a ticket for criminal trespassing.
Since retiring from the NFL, Anderson has dealt with several issues off the field. In August, Anderson was arrested in Forsyth County, Georgia for driving on a suspended license and a move-over violation. In April, he served five days in jail in Hall County, Georgia after pleading guilty to a DUI. Also, he was sentenced to 12 months probation in Gwinnett County, Georgia for another alcohol-related incident.
Unfortunately, Anderson has found it difficult to adjust to life after the NFL. Some NFL players and former pro athletes find the adjustment to be hard due to focusing most of their time in sports as youth. While some athletes are able to gain careers as sports reporters, coaching, and business, others may find themselves in financial debt and plagued by drug and alcohol abuse.
It’s important for the NFL and other professional sports leagues to provide assistance to former athletes and employees.
Anderson, who starred for the Atlanta Falcons during the ’90s, has yet to speak on his latest incident on social media.
