Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” Becomes Fastest Debut Single To Hit Number 1 On Hot Rap Songs Chart Since 2012
Besides reaching the Top 3 on the Hot 100, “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” by Cardi B is now the #1 rap song in the country.
The Bronx rhymer moving to the top position on the Hot Rap Songs Chart in six weeks is the quickest rise for a lead artist’s debut entry in five years. Psy’s “Gangnam Style” skyrocketed to the pinnacle after two weeks in 2012.
According to Billboard, “Bodak Yellow” also hit #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart off the strength of 36.2 million streams in the U.S. and a 30% increase in radio play.
Cardi made it clear in a social media post she is not an overnight success. The former star of Love & Hip Hop spoke about her artistic ascension on Instagram.
“Y’all think that, ‘Oh, little “Bodak Yellow” came out and boom, it was just that easy for me,’” said Cardi. “I’ve been really hustling for my career since I was 21.”
The rest of the Hot Rap Songs Chart includes French Montana’s “Unforgettable” featuring Swae Lee (#2), DJ Khaled’s “I’m The One” featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper & Lil Wayne (#3), 21 Savage’s “Bank Account” (#4), and Post Malone’s “Congratulations” featuring Quavo (#5).
