Baltimore hospital guards dump patient on freezing street half naked

A hospital has launched an investigating after shocking video emerged showing staff abandoning a woman outside in the freezing cold wearing just her gown, just minutes after being discharged. The clip shows four security guards, one rolling a wheel chair, walking away from the a patient near the emergency room at Mount Vernon in Baltimore, Maryland. The Baltimore Sun reported .

Clearly distressed and confused the elderly woman can be seen shaking after being dumped by hospital staff. The video which has already racked up over 200,000 views, was posted to Facebook by Imamu Baraka, a doctoral student in with the local health authority.

The elderly woman had just been released from A&E and was dumped in her hospital gown in sub zero weather

 

In the heartbreaking footages woman is seen near the bus stop dressed in a gown and socks. Her belongings are packed in plastic bags that have also been placed at the bus stop. Imamu sharing the video online wrote: “I just witnessed this with my own eyes I had no choice but to give this young lady a voice in this moment.”In the video he challenges the security guards about leaving the vulnerable woman outside in freezing temperatures. “Y’all are just going to leave this lady out here with no clothes?” he said. One of the guards eventually responds: “Due to the circumstances of what happened.” He also asks to speak to a supervisor before one of the security people said that he is the supervisor.

Imamu is then seen asking the woman, who looks disoriented, if she needs help but she screams and moves her hands around but doesn’t talk. In his Facebook post, he slams the hospital for how the woman was treated. “University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus (UMMC) as a Doctor of Healthcare Administration (DHA) student — may I remind you of the importance of the VISION of your MEDICAL CENTER,” he wrote. “

“You can do better. You must do better.” Maryland health officials have confirmed t that they are investigating the incident. In a statement they said they said they shared the “shock and disappointment” people who saw the video probably felt. “This unfortunate event is not representative of our patient-centered mission.

“While there are many circumstances of this patient’s case that we cannot address publicly, in the end we clearly failed to fulfill our mission with this patient, no matter the circumstances of her case or the quality of the clinical care we provided in the hospital which is not depicted in the video.

“We are taking this matter very seriously, conducting a thorough review, and are evaluating the appropriate response, including the possibility of personnel action.”
